Although most of the Museum's thousands of typesettings are stored on galleys (storage trays) slotted into their galley racks, a number have been wrapped up and stored in other ways.
These are stored on a shelf in a bulk storage rack. The printers who stored these jobs placed a proof copy on most of the parcels. Others have relevant details written on the wrapping. That did not always happen, and there are quite a number which must be unwrapped to discover the significance of the contents.
One of the settings has been unwrapped and placed onto a plinth of wood for inspection. Also visible in this picture is a rubber stamp matrix, the dark coloured sheet with the impression of type in it. And a photopolymer plate mounted type-high (front right). Further details on these are in other documents.
