[picture in document]
A beautiful artefact: a pen drawing, from which a line engraving was produced. The line engraving was then stereotyped to produce one or more duplicate plates (stereotypes).
The colour of this photo is distorted: the plate is grey, not copper coloured. It should not be confused with an electrotype, which indeed would have possessed a copper top surface.
A researcher may some day find out just where and when this stereotyped drawing was used. Researchers may, if necessary, make use of the Museum's Access Studio to print a proof of blocks in the archives.
