This is a six-up block of oval-shaped solid tints. These may have been used as the background for a business card or a label.
With six-up printing, six identically sized business cards (for example) would be composed and locked up together. The tint block would be printed onto the six-up size cards, the text then printed over it, then the cards would be cut into six.
This engraving would be an example of an unremarkable artefact, of a kind used frequently. Nevertheless, each tint block would be unique, with a few exceptions. Each one tells a story.
